2016 Tom Hornsby Memorial Rallye

The DVC 2015 Hornsby Rallye was held on Saturday, July 16 with 11 cars participating. We started from the same location as last year, the Turkey Hill in the Bucks County village of Harrow. The sunny skies of previous years returned but brought the heat making for an uncomfortable day. The first car was off at 1:00 in the afternoon and the other cars followed at 1 minute intervals. The rout again wound through a variety of scenic roads in the woods of upper Bucks County, although this year sadly I had to stick with paved roads. The route ended at the Sanders for a late lunch and beverages.  A couple of cars ultimately DNF’d, but most managed to  complete the course within reasonable time. Everyone made it to the picnic and there were no mechanical failures during the event. Other than getting lost a few times everyone seemed to have a great time.

The participants were Tom and Jaimee Rippert, Dick and Sandy Suffredini, Jen and Steve Albright, Jill and Wade Albright, Paul and Evonna Phillips,  Garth and Susan Gill, Graham and Susan Gill, Leah Foster and Amanda Naples, Sam Senior and Pat Hampson, Jay and Benjamin Kaufman, and last but not least Jim Sanders and Lisa Burke.

Lew Phillips, Adam and Eva Linicki, and Louise Story couldn’t make the rally but we were happy to see that they were there for the socializing.

Always turn in a time and distance at the end, a good estimate awarded Jim and Lisa 1st place!
Congratulations to Tom and Jaimee Rippert who again took home 2nd place and the Hornsby Trophy which is awarded to the 1st T series car. Honors also go to  and 3rd place to Paul and Evona Phillips.

Thanks to all for their participation. Special thanks to Tom and Jaimee for obtaining the engraved pewter plaque awards and double special thanks to Jim and Diane for hosting the picnic at the end.

Hope to see everyone at next year’s rally.

Kentucky MG2016 – 2016

MG Thoroughbreds Gather in Kentucky

829 British classics from across the United States registered to challenge the heat of the highways and.  gather for a four day meet (June 13th to 16th) in historic, Louisville. Ten brave DVC couples mounted their thoroughbreds for the rugged ride (that only an antique English sports car can provide) from Pennsylvania to Kentucky.

Blue Grass country did not disappoint. Hank Rippert greeted our thirsty posse with some well deserved, satisfying and rejuvenating beverages in “Rippert style”. Cocktails and tours of Churchill Downs were held on Monday and Wednesday evening and a Bourbon Trail Tour proved popular on Tuesday – perhaps you can spot a trend…

A tour of the Corvette factory on Wednesday reminded the group that not everyone in the world motored in British style and, of course, tech sessions were held daily to remind all of the miracle and madness of MG.

Good food was abundant, especially in the evenings at “register night” banquets followed by music and dance with Captain Rat & the Blind Rivets.

DVC members in attendance were Pat & Patty Cawthorne, Warren & Nancy Doerner, Ernie & Barbara Feldgus, Wolfgang & Gudie Fischer, Garth & Susan Gill, Adam & Eva Ilnicki, Rich & Brenda Moore, Ben & Cindi Nolan, Paul & Evonna Phillips, Tom & Jaimee Rippert & Dick & Sandy Suffredini.

Memorial Day Picnic – 2016

Celebrating Memorial Day with Adam and Eva Ilnicki

On a very warm day, Saturday, May 28th, about forty MGrs joined Adam and Eva Ilnicki to once again celebrate Memorial Day with them at their Harleysville home.

As usual, there was very tasty Polish Kielbasa, cooked masterfully on the grill, not in the stump fire.  Guests brought side dishes and desserts and a feast, including non-stop beer, was had by all.

Shade was provided by the large canopy under which the food was served or by moving chairs around under the good-sized trees.   Speaking of the stump fire, Adam lit a fire within a huge stump to help burn it out.  It gave off a thick smoke and heat for a while but then settled down.   Having left earlier than most, we do not know how successful the fire was to get rid of the rather large stump; hopefully this did not include a visit from the fire company.

The Ilnicki’s front yard was filled with good-looking MGs.

Joining in the festivities were:  Pat and Patty Cawthorne (MGB), Wolfgang and Gudie Fischer (MGTD), Dick and Sandy Suffredini  (MGTD), Tom and Jaimee Rippert (MGTD), Lew Phillips (Subaru), Evelyn and Bill Webb (MGB), Paul and Evonna Phillips (MGBGT), Bill and Linda Boorse (MGB), Donna Bristol (MGTD), Chuck Denlinger (pick-up), Otto and Ruth Blavier (MGB), Garth and Susan Gill (MGA), Gloria Schwab (Mazda), Janet and Mark Singer (BMW), Nancy and Peter Yoskowski (MGTF), Sally & Curtis Yocum (MGB), Louise Story, Dave and Erin Alderfer (MGB), Ray and Faith DeCesare, Wade and Jill Albright, Steve and Jen Albright, and Adam and Eva Ilnicki (MGTD).

Wildwood – 2016

WILD, WILD, WILDWOOD DAYS…

Where are you if every day is a holiday and every night is Saturday night?

Bobby Rydell got it right. There are no greater times than the days spent in Wildwood, New Jersey. The iconic New Jersey singer, still making appearances and now living in Blue Bell, PA, grew up in a house just four doors West on Montgomery Avenue from our motel – the Mar-Lane.

Twenty-seven DVC members and their beautiful MGs rested happily at Chris and Lisa’s lodge, 1-1/2 blocks from the famous Wildwood boardwalk, with the help of a case of Beck’s donated by their hosts. Gudi and Wolfgang Fischer once again acted as coordinators for this popular, annual event.

Their planning included dinner Friday night, breakfast Saturday morning in North Wildwood, a driving and walking tour of historic Cape May, dinner at the very nautical looking Oyster House (excellent food) followed by drinks and racing movies until……

How’s that for a couple of days chocked full of activity? Oops, I forgot to mention walks on the boardwalk and to the impressive veteran memorial wall across from the Convention center and breakfast on Sunday morning at a bagel café.

Tom and Jaimee Rippert were missed greatly (no underwear runs into the ocean – among other things) but Sandy and Dick Suffredini supplied the entertainment and everyone reveled joyfully.

Attendees included… Deb & Bruce Swanson; Sally & Curtis Yocum; Janet & Mark Singer; Karen & Mike Kearns; Peggy & Jay Kaufman; Gudi & Wolf Fischer; Fran & Paul Holl; Sandy & Dick Suffredini; Evonna & Paul Phillips; Cyndi & Ben Nolan; Diane & Jim Sanders; Louise Story; Patty & Pat Cawthorne; and Evelyn & Bill Webb

…AND WILD, WILD, WILDWOOD NIGHTS.

Tech Session – 2016

20160416_Tech-Session_20160416-123450   April 16, 2016

A Family Affair

(The Schwab family and DVC)

April 16, 2016 was a glorious day for the Schwab’s and their extended DVC family to come together in memory of long time DVCer, David Schwab.

For years, DVC members have enjoyed the pleasure of using the Schwab family estate in rural Pottstown for its annual tech session. A beautiful and historic home flanked by multiple garages, a lift, tools, and British car memorabilia served as the site for the Club’s Spring car tune-up session. This Saturday in April allowed tops to come off or down by noon on more than 30 great cars.

Classics and antiques to be serviced, repaired, admired, and photographed joined together, representing at least 15 MGBs, 3 MGAs, 4 GTs, 2 TDs, 1 MGTA, 1 TC, and 1 TF. Most owner-drivers proved to be capable mechanics and no major mishaps were reported. However, one troubled, trouble light “malfunctioned” for Kurt and Bruce until it was discovered to be un-plugged. Jeff Rose checked out Jay Kaufman’s inherited black TF while Dave Johnston rewired his B with most standing in the sun watching, eating, and drinking.

All of us in attendance salute Gloria, Dylan, and the rest of the Schwab family as our gracious hosts for this event. Excellent friends, food and memories made for a perfect kickoff to a new driving season. If you missed this event, make up for it by attending the rest of this year’s events.

Joining in the tech session were:  Lee Ahrens – TA, TC & TD; Otto & Ruth Blavier – B; Bill Boorse – B & GT; Donna Bristol – Jeep; Pat Cawthorne – A; Warren & Nancy Doerner – B; Ernie Feldgus – Porsche 911; Graham Gill – TD; Garth & Susan Gill – A; Paul Holl – SL, TD; Lyn Hughes – Spitfire; Adam & Eva Ilnicki – B; Dave Johnston –B; Ken Jones – B; Jay Kaufman – TF; Jill & Lily Kozo (a/k/a Tinkerbell); Sue Mahan; Lew Phillips – Tahoe; Paul & Evonna Phillips – B, GT; Tommy & Jaimee Rippert – B; Jeff Rose – GT; Jim Sanders – A; Gloria & Dylan Schwab – B; Mark & Janet Singer – B; Bill Shields – B; Louise Story – B ;Dick & Sandy Suffredini – TD; Bruce, Deb & Erica Swanson – B, GT; Bob Tiley – B; Lee Wesner – A (1500); Kurt & Sally Yocum.
