RHOADS TO CRAVEN HILL
Forty years ago teacher Ella Rhoads started an effort that has led to the restoration of historic Craven Hall and the creation of the John Fitch Steamboat Museum.
Ella, no doubt, drove her MG to the Warminster, Pennsylvania site to oversee the reconstruction project. Yes, the founder of The Citizens for the Preservation of Craven Hill, Inc., was a strong and adventurous woman for sure since that MG was a TD!
The connection between DVC and Craven Hall exists through DVC’s newest members and Craven Hall board members, Ruth and Otto Blavier. They sponsored this unique event on February 20, 2016, which delighted all 26 DVC members in attendance on that bright and sunny Saturday.
Donuts were plentiful upon arrival as a woman in period dress baked cakes and cookies over an open fire. Tours of the Hall and the Fitch Steamboat Museum proved to be educational and Abe Lincoln was on hand to weigh in on the election???
It proved to be a delightful day and experience that culminated in Mike’s York Street Bar & Grill for food and spirits in keeping with true Colonial, and DVC, traditions. Kudos, bravos and thanks to Ruth and Otto!
