On February 22nd the DVC members met at Earl-Bowl Lanes in Telford for an afternoon of exercise, sportsmanship, athletic display and also bowling. The turnout was good as members welcomed a chance to escape from the winter doldrums and rejoin the camaraderie of the club.

Participants  were Pat and Patty Cawthorne, Wolfgang and Gudie Fischer, Greg and Janice Lake,  Tom and Jaimee Rippert, Jim and Diane Sanders (hosts), Dick and Sandy Sufferdini,  Louise Story , and Wade Albright and Jill McKeown allowing the club to form 4 evenly talented teams.

After the dust cleared, broken pins removed and cracked floor boards repaired the club regrouped at the Rising Sun Pub for food drink and revelry. (Surprisingly, members seemed more within their realm at this venue than at the bowling alley). There was also an awards ceremony. Prizes were given for numerous high and low achievements. Among the winners were Wade Albright and Jill McKeown for high games for a man and lady.  At the end of the day, all safely returned home to attend to their aches and pains and look forward to the next gathering.

Despite the snow, nineteen people came to the Movie Tavern in Collegeville, PA, to see Jack Ryan: Shadow Recruit.  Dick offered free tickets to anyone that drove their MG, but with the bad weather nobody dared take him up on it!

If you’ve never been to a Movie Tavern before, it is a lot of fun.  The menu includes pub-style food and a variety of drinks that can be eaten while enjoying the movie.  Staff at the Collegeville location was helpful, greeting our group cheerfully and helping late-comers find us when they arrived.

The movie was action-packed and everyone enjoyed both flick and food – and of course the company of fellow DVC’rs!  Those braving the elements to attend were:  Jaimee and Tom Rippert, Patty and Pat Cawthorne, Eva and Adam Ilnicki, Janet and Mark Singer, Nancy and Pete Yaskowski,  Sally and Curtis Yocum (new members – welcome, we’re glad you’ve joined us!), Jerry Keller, Chuck Denlinger, Louise Story, and Sandy and Dick Suffredini.  Thanks to all those that attended and hope to see you at DVC Bowling on February 22!

The weather was excellent for our Christmas Party, which is really saying something this winter. No ice, no snow, no minus degree temperatures. It was a sunny, 40 degree day. Tom even decorated Clipper (our TD) and drove him over to the Woodside Lodge earlier in the day (with the lights on the car). I think he might’ve used about 100 pinch clips to fasten the lights to the car, so I thought it’d be a pretty safe bet to drive the car without losing any lights. I was right. Clipper looked pretty good parked on the side of the lodge, welcoming all the guests to the party that evening.

Not only Clipper looked good, but all who attended the party looked very nice and festive for the evening. We enjoyed lots of catching up with old and new friends, while enjoying drinks and hors d’ouerves. This is also the time our raffle ticket sellers do their stuff. Terri Tiley had her raffle prizes nicely displayed on a table for all to see. The prizes were terrific, as usual, and I’m sure everyone else agreed because we sold lots of tickets – so we have lots of money towards next year’s raffle prizes. Where Terri comes up with these items is a mystery to me. I would’ve loved that Union Jack trash can and toilet seat for our Redneck bathroom!

By about 7:00, the buffet dinner was served and, after everyone had their fill, the program began. Tom and Dick each had a few words to say, then Barre Williams presented his traditional “Founder’s Award” mugs to two deserving members of the DVC. This year Terri Tiley and Chuck Denlinger were the recipients of these mugs. I could tell they were very surprised and very happy to receive these beautiful pewter mugs.

Then onto the raffle. Tom, Dick and Ben Nolan did a great job of moving it along quickly this year. Believe me there are lots of prizes, and I hope that each of you won something.

Some more socializing after the raffle till everyone bid farewell for the evening. We had 57 attendees this year, so I’m not going to list everyone’s name. It was nice to see some new members, some old members we haven’t seen in a while, and the members we see on a regular basis.

We’d like to thank everyone who helped make this year’s Christmas party a huge success.

The DVC Annual Planning Meeting was held Sunday, November, 17th at the Silverdale Borough Park Building. The weather was mostly sunny which encouraged several to drive their vintage automobiles of the club’s marque. Dick and Sandy Suffredini arrived in the oldest MG at the meeting as they pulled up in their ’52 MG TD. Peter Yaskowski was a close second as he drove his 1954 MG TF. Driving MGBs were Warren Doerner, David Johnston and Mark Singer; Dave Schwab drove his MGBGT. Buzz, again this year represented his Mini marque bringing Tom and Jaimee Rippert to the meeting. Jerry Russell, attesting to the mild weather arrived in true Americana style on his Harley. Also in attendance were Donna Bristol, Pat and Patty Cawthorne, Chuck Denlinger, David Johnston, Adam and Eva Ilnicki, Dave and Karen Paul, Lew Phillips, Jim and Diane Sanders (hosts), and Lee Wesner. Good food and beverages were enjoyed by all.

Tom Rippert opened the meeting. It was announced that the DVC again won the Founders Cup at the 2013 Triathlon. Lew Phillips reviewed the Web site and it was agreed that implementation has been a success and many members find it helpful. Patty Cawthorne shared good news from the club’s treasury and reported that the club’s finances are healthy with a budgetary surplus. The possibility of putting available coupons provided by sponsors on the website was discussed and it was agreed that this could be done once the number of coupons warranted implementation. The remainder of the meeting was dedicated to determining the 2013 calendar of events of which a tentative schedule was made.
