Wildwood Weekend – 2012

After days of rain, we were promised a beautiful weekend.  And it was a gorgeous weekend!  A small caravan of cars left from the Cracker Barrel in Plymouth Meeting at 9:00 a.m. Friday morning.  Tom led everyone on winding “back” roads and it was a beautiful drive.  Just when we thought we were going to make it to the shore with no mishaps, Jim and Diane Sanders pulled over.  The drive shaft came off the rear.  Not good.  Bill Webb (in a Honda) towed Jim’s TD into a parking lot to get it off the road, and we contacted Wolfgang to see if he had bolts.  He did have the correct bolts, so Tom and Wolfgang came up with a meeting place on Route 9.  Unfortunately they weren’t thinking of the “same” meeting place.  It took a while but they finally met up, the new bolts were installed, and we made it to Wildwood for a late lunch.

Just after arriving at the Marlane, new member Paul Holl stopped by.  He had told us that he had a place behind the Marlane.  It is literally right behind the Marlane, walk out the back gate and there you are.  We all strolled over to check out his TD.  What a beauty, check out the picture in this article.  I think his engine is cleaner than my kitchen – and no oil in the drip pan under the car – what’s up with that?

Friday evening we caravanned down to the Lobster House in Cape May.  We all enjoyed plenty of seafood and beer on the deck, then a nice drive back to the Marlane where we all gathered on the back patio for more beer and good conversation.

Saturday morning we caravanned to Cape May and visited two wineries and one brewery.  The weather was perfect for top down driving and wine tasting.  The wine was good and the beer was excellent.  Back to the Marlane in time for our wine and cheese party on the patio.  Gudie supplied French bread and we had lots of good cheeses and wine.  Greg and Janice Lake stopped by for a little while – they were at their place in Ocean City.  Also, Paul Holl’s wife, Fran, made it to the shore in time for the wine and cheese party.  Later in the evening we walked to Skelinger’s restaurant where we once again enjoyed good food.  We walked back to the Marlane via the boardwalk where some people went on a roller coaster ride, but we didn’t shoot Tom and Jim to the moon this year.  More camaraderie on the Marlane’s patio before hitting the sack.

Sunday morning was very cool and cloudy.  After breakfast, everyone said their farewells and headed home.  Bob and Terri, Dick and Sandy, Wade and Jill and us took a ride through Cape May where it started to rain.  We put our tops up (Wade and Jill didn’t), hey, they’re young.. and headed home.  The weather got nicer and nicer as we approached PA, and when we got home it was HOT and sunny (wish we had left our top down).
