Wildwood Weekend – 2014

Windy, Wet, but Wonderful Wildwood……..

Five MGs, accompanied by their brave drivers, and their lovely navigators, met at Plymouth Meeting in torrential downpours to begin their annual spring trek to Wildwood, New Jersey, to meet more DVCrs and our host and hostess, Gudie and Wolfgang Fischer.

As can be seen in one of the photos, visibility was near zero at some points on the Blue Route, but somehow we stayed together during the entire trip and, fortunately, there were no mishaps, arriving at the MarLane in yet another rain deluge.    We seemed to have traveled from PA to South Jersey under the same black clouds.

We had to postpone our planned pre-dinner cocktail hour(s) in the usual back party section of the MarLane.  However, when the rain subsided somewhat, we were able to walk “two Gudie blocks” to a new restaurant, Pesto Pasta, where we enjoyed good service but, more importantly, good Italian dishes.
After dinner, some “still peppy” members got together in the party area and celebrated their first MG event of the spring, with Fun, Booze and Laughter.

After a hearty Saturday morning breakfast at the Pink Cadillac, the group left the MarLane parking lot with Gudie and Wolfgang in the lead to tour the immediate South Jersey area on the way to see “Lucy the Elephant” in Margate.  Lucy was renovated not too long ago and tours were offered to climb to the top where one could enjoy a great view of the Jersey coastline.  The weather by this time was sunny and warmer and it was good to wiggle toes in the sand and take a walk at the water’s edge.

Upon returning to the MarLane, which proved to be a challenge for some of the group (sometimes German English is harder to understand for some), we got together for lunch and consumed wine, beer and the great variety of goodies brought by the group, and of course, Gudie’s delicious homemade bread.  Yummy!!!

Dinner was enjoyed at the Two-Mile Landing Restaurant between the Diamond Beach area of Wildwood Crest and the bridge to Cape May on Ocean Drive.  The two restaurants in this area were both recently reopened after being closed for a number of years due to a collapsed area in the Crab House.  A beautiful sunset was enjoyed from our private room in the restaurant.   Another post dinner party was enjoyed by the group upon returning to the MarLane.

Following a delicious breakfast on Sunday morning at the Bagel Place a couple of blocks away, the group started to prepare to navigate the long trek home.

Participating in the Wildwood weekend were Pat and Patty Cawthorne (MGA), Larry and Connie Cordeiro (MGBGT), Warren and Nancy Doerner (MGB), Wolfie and Gudie Fischer, Paul Holl and friend, Tony Tornetta (MGTD), Adam and Eva Ilnicki, Mike and Karen Kerns (MGB), Paul and Evonna Phillips (MGBGT), Tom and Jaimee Rippert (MGB), Jerry Russel and Janice Gorenflo (MGB), Jim and Diane Sanders (MGB), David Schwab (MGBGT), Dick and Sandy Suffredini (MGTD) and Bill and Evelyn Webb (MGB).

We heartily thank Gudie and Wolfie for their hospitality and  planning this enjoyable Wildwood weekend.  We all wished them a safe, successful and fun trip to Germany, which began for them on the very next morning.  Bon Voyage, Gudie and Wolfie!!!
